Hirschfield’s New York Times piece highlighted a heli-skiing trip with nine skier and snowboarder Blu Girls from around the country who gathered to conquer the Alaskan backcountry slopes. Along with fostering a close-knit online community, Blu Girls often host gatherings where lady thrill-seekers from around the globe embark on exciting adventures, which build lasting friendships. “I have a hard time finding circles of confident, smart, fit women who have more to talk about than pop culture or each other,” said Shiloh Uhlir, one of the Blu Girls who explained what made their community so special. “I’m O.K. getting out of my comfort zone, knowing that the girl group thing will help me feel a little safer,” said Carrie Grant, another member of the all-female heli ski trip.
