LONDON - April 8, 2014 - PRLog -- In the run up to SMi’s 3rd annual Smart Water Systems Conference in Central London, Allan Lambert, Managing Director at Water Loss Research and Analysis Ltd, was asked a few questions about the conference taking place on 28th & 29th April and about the industry.

Allan will be speaking at the event on “Best practise international approaches to monitoring improvements in NRW and leakage management” and will go onto host a post conference interactive workshop on “Smart Leakage and Asset Management by Pressure Management” alongside JOAT Consulting Director, Mark Shepherd.

He gave his views on this year's conference, challenges facing the smart water industry and the future of Smart Water Systems.

Snippet of Interview:

Q. About you – what is your role and current activities?

Trying to make people aware of problems relating to perception of leakage management (use of inappropriate and misleading performance indicators (paper). Disseminating latest international advances in understanding and predicting the many benefits of smart pressure management in distribution systems, including reduction in burst frequency and extension of residual infrastructure life.

Q - Tell us about the conference and your participation

The Smart Water Systems conference covers a wide range of strategies and techniques, but some of the performance indicators used to monitor progress in NRW and leakage management are not only far from ’smart’, they actually fail to identify success. The paper 'Best Practice International approaches to monitoring improvements in NRW and Leakage management' will address this issue. The fundamental role of smart pressure management, as the foundation for efficiently managed distribution systems, is it still not widely recognised, and a Workshop on 30th April will outline the latest practical methods to identify situations where pressure management is reducing bursts and extending infrastructure life, with international case studies.
