The Medical Tourism Insurance – One of BISI Institute’s Added Value

With more and more people travelling abroad for medical treatment, many are caught up in misleading information regarding to the right travel insurance and fail to guarantee a hassle-free medical experience for themselves.

BARCELONA, Spain - April 8, 2014 - PRLog -- When Dr. Vicenç Gilete first created BISI Institute he had already in mind a set of added values to minimize the risks of complications as well as build-up frustration to BISI Institute’s patients. “Even though we do all the necessary steps to guarantee that a certain surgery is largely risk free, there can be complications beyond our control” says Dr. Vicenç Gilete, “also, misfortunes can happen outside the hospital premises which can compromise the patients overall medical experience” he continued.

Many medical tourists don’t know that most common travel insurances aren’t appropriate for people travelling for medical reasons, simply because the risk of complications of a tourist travelling for medical purposes is much higher that a tourist travelling for leisure activities – Insurance companies simply do not want to take that risk. And, in most of the cases, when a patient asks for a travel insurance they tend to fail to mention to the insurer that the reason they want a travel insurance is because they are traveling for medical purposes and end up not reading the contracts’ small print mentioning that the coverage excludes travels related to medical treatment. Unfortunately not all insurance companies offer medical tourism insurances and they don’t bother asking the client for more detailed information to suggest the most appropriate one.

For the reasons above, BISI institute knew from the start that all its patients had to be covered by this special insurance. “All our quotes for surgery in Barcelona, include a Medical Tourism Insurance, one that was precisely designed to cover any illness or accident before the surgery and after hospital discharge” affirms Dr. Vicenç Gilete.

Through the evaluations using BISI’s health questionnaire, it was obvious that this medical travel insurance wasn’t enough to cover all patients’ needs, which gave Dr. Vicenç Gilete some indications that in certain surgery cases there was a need of a more powerful insurance in order not to compromise the patients’ overall medical tourism experience. That’s when BISI institute analyzed several proposals in order to assess the most adequate medical travel insurances for all its patients and included the Complications Insurance and the Re-operation Insurance. These last ones are suggested to patients according to the level of risk associated to their surgeries and all are complementary to each other.

Having in mind that a patient can have his/her medical expenses covered in the event of something unplanned happening is a powerful tool to reinforce emotionally and practically that his or her medical experience will have a positive outcome and with no doubt, reflect on a quick healing  - and this exactly what BISI Institute aims for its patients.
