BEND, Ore. - April 8, 2014 - PRLog -- Officers of the Deschutes County Citizen’s Action Group, or CAG, Commissioner Tony DeBone and Commissioner Alan Unger met with representatives of the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council, or COIC, presenting checks to keep the La Pine transit buses rolling. CAG and Deschutes County each pledged $2,500 for two years, allowing COIC to match and multiply those funds by a factor of ten, turning $5,000 into $50,000. CAG president John Huddle stated, “Transportation is vital to the La Pine community. Without the East Cascade Transit buses, many of our veterans, seniors and the disabled would be unable to go grocery shopping, make doctor’s visits or pick up their prescriptions. I'm glad we have forward-looking county commissioners, like Commissioner and Chair Tammy Baney, Commissioner DeBone and Commissioner Unger, Vice Chair of the COIC board, who partnered with CAG. Without their help, I have no doubt the buses would no longer roll through La Pine! I’m especially grateful that we can rely on Commissioner DeBone, a resident of the La Pine area, who understands La Pine issues. CAG members, many aged 70 and older, volunteered 8-hour shifts at the Cascade Lakes Relay, freezing at night and baking in the day, to raise most vxfng of CAG's pledge. CAG is especially grateful to Molly Baker Ray for coordinating the relay volunteers and CAG secretary Judy Forsythe as CAG's liaison to the county and COIC. In addition, Molly and Judy also serve on transportation advisory councils at COIC or Deschutes County. CAG's clearly meets our mission of transparency in government and improved services to the community with this partnership.” (For details about CAG, see
