-- [UAE, April 7, 2014] - The Emirates Institution of Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) revealed its successful participation at the Global Aerospace Summit, which started today April 7 till April 8, 2014 at St. Regis, Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. During the event for senior executives, decision makers and government officials from aerospace, aviation, defense and space industries, the institution threw the spotlight on its key achievements and advancements in the move to complete the UAE’s first Emirati built satellite, KhalifaSat.
Salem Al Marri, Assistant Director General of Scientific and Technical Affairs, EIAST was one of the invited speakers and discussed the topic, ‘Emerging Markets for Innovative Space Applications’
where he highlighted EIAST’s accomplishments as well as future development plans along with updates on KhalifaSat, the UAE’s first 100 per cent Emirati-built satellite. On the other hand, Engineer Saeed Al Mansoori, Associate Image Processing engineer at EIAST spoke on ‘Earth Observation – Making a Difference to the Knowledge Economy.’ His talk centered on the latest trends being followed in the earth observation industry, which would be beneficial for global security, environment, society and economy.
Al Marri stated: “Our participation at Global Aerospace Summit has provided us with a platform to highlight EIAST’s impressive achievement to a global audience, showcasing the advancement made by the UAE in the aerospace industry. It was an appropriate opportunity for us to shed light on the progress being made in KhalifaSat and its benefits to humanity once the satellite is launched in 2017. EIAST has always taken keen interest in spreading awareness about its space technology at local as well as regional level and the summit was a wonderful occasion to talk about the UAE’s capabilities in the field of space sciences. We were also able to interact with the leading international space leaders and experts--exploring the latest trends and learning about new technologies and following best practices that can be applied at EIAST.”
Hosted by Mubadala Development Company, the Global Aerospace Summit is a unique platform that brings together industry experts to discuss, debate, create and deliver future strategies to determine aerospace industry’s future growth and success. EIAST was established by the Dubai Government in 2006 with the goal of promoting a culture of advanced scientific research and technology innovation in Dubai and the UAE, and enhancing technology innovation and scientific skills among UAE Nationals. space imaging; and ground station services and support for other satellites.
