Venus Thrash Debuts Poetry Book “The Fateful Apple”
Dr. Keith D. Leonard author of Fettered Genius: The African American Bardic Poet from Slavery to Civil Rights stated, “The Fateful Apple mines the sensibility of the blues and these poems reside in what has come to be called by scholars the “matrix” of the blues, the intersection of shared history, artistic techniques and sensibilities, and individual creativity which marks this most defining of our cultural forms.”
Poet, E. Ethelbert Miller exclaimed, “The poems in the Fateful Apple are a unique as fingerprints. They have a quality that is sensual and unflinching. The Fateful Apple is a mirror to life’s toughness, and tenderness as well. These poems have been waiting for us.”
Venus Thrash was a finalist in the 2012 Jean Feldman Poetry Prize and the 2009 Arktoi Poetry Prize. Her poetry has been published in The Beloit Poetry Journal, Beltway Quarterly, Torch, Gargoyle, Folio, and the Arkansas Review, and in the anthologies Gathering Ground: A Reader Celebrating Cave Canem’s First Decade, Haunted Voices, Haunting Places: An Anthology of Writers of the Old and New South, Full Moon on K Street: Poems About Washington, DC, and Spaces Between Us; An HIV/AIDS Anthology. “The Fateful Apple” is now available in softcover worldwide at your preferred on-line retailer.
