'Quassy Zoo' Ready To Roar To Life

Amusement Park Ready To Launch Children's Play Area In Early May

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - April 4, 2014 - PRLog -- MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Will there by lions and tigers and bears, oh my?

Perhaps not that exact menagerie, but there will be a variety of friendly creatures ready to greet youngsters at “Quassy Zoo,” an expanded children’s play area to be unveiled May 3 and 4 at Quassy Amusement & Waterpark here.

“Quassy Zoo” will be located adjacent to the “Yo-Yo” Super Swing ride and provide an opportunity for children to enjoy a number of friendly fiberglass creations.

“We’ve incorporated a number of new animals to help round out the theme in this area of the park,” said George Frantzis, a Quassy owner. “Families enjoy relaxing under the shade trees there and taking pictures of their children with the animals. This will broaden the opportunity presented in our small ‘zoo.’”

The new animals were created by Enchanted Castle Studios of Natural Bridge, Va.

Many Activities

The weekend will be filled with activities for children, including crafts and a display booth presented by The Barnum Museum of Bridgeport, Conn.

Museum staff will work with children to create, color, and hand-bind flip books, craft mythical creatures, design dragon rails and use light boxes to examine x-rays. In addition, the museum will have some fun, easy read-aloud and picture books to spur creativity.

“Saggy Baggy Elephant,” a favorite of young readers, will also be on hand for meet and greet sessions as part of Quassy’s 2014 Ready To Read Program. The park has presented the summer reading incentive program for more than a decade as part of its extensive educational outreach. Youngsters can earn a free day of rides to Quassy by reading three books during summer recess and logging them on a form. Official Ready To Read Program certificates will be issued during the meet and greet appearances. “Saggy Baggy Elephant” will visit Quassy courtesy of Random House Children’s Books, a division of Random House LLC.

May 3 and 4 will also feature a $35 carload special at the park. For that fee up to 10 persons in a car will receive all-day ride wristbands, parking included. Quassy operates noon to 6 p.m. both days. “Splash Away Bay” waterpark and Quassy Beach open May 24 and will not be operating for this event.

In addition, both days will feature live entertainment at the Carousel Theatre stage. Regional dance schools and studios will perform on Saturday, May 3, with Jim & Sandy Sisti bringing their comedy magic shows to the stage on Sunday, May 4.
