WASHINGTON - April 2, 2014 - PRLog -- (IndieCapitol Press Release) April 2, 2014 - Washington D.C.  -- IndieCapitol announces the launch of the inaugural IndieCapitol Awards. The program will spotlight the individual and collective achievements of the Washington area’s locally produced independent films.

For our first year, IndieCapitol welcomes Josh Novikoff (DCist), Kevin Sampson (Picture Lock, WAFCA) and Michael Parsons (Pa/Pa Reviews., WAFCA) to preside as head jurors for the films submitted. IndieCapitol has chosen to have a small, select group of critics review films to create an objective judging process.

Award categories mirror those of the Oscars and include:

1. Best Picture
2. Best Director
3. Best Actor
4. Best Actress
5. Best Supporting Actor
6. Best Supporting Actress
7. Best Screenplay
8. Best Original Score
9. Best Editing
10. Best Cinematography
11. Best Sound Design
12. Best Documentary
13. Best Visual Effects
14. Best Wardrobe
15. Best Make Up
16. Best Set Design
17. Best Narrative Short
18. Best Documentary Short

To submit a film:  email  a secure online screener link and password to

Films released by way of Theatrical Screening/Release, Internet Streaming, Video On Demand and/or DVD/Bluray Release within the time frame of 1/1/2012 and 12/31/2013 are eligible for consideration.
Only films produced in Washington DC, Maryland or Northern Virginia are qualified.
Submission to the competition is free for filmmakers.

Submissions will be accepted from March 31st to June 1st, 2014, and nominations will be announced on August 9th, 2014. Winners will be announced and awards will be presented at the IndieCapitol Awards Ceremony October 12, 2014 at Washington D.C’s, West End Cinema during the 5th annual Reel Independent Film Extravaganza.

Created by Filmmaker Anthony M. Greene (Going Down, The Henchman’s War, WDCFM), IndieCapitol was established to spotlight and promote the efforts of the Metropolitan area’s film community by providing coverage through and the IndieCapitol Podcast. The show, directed by Cheryl M. Brown (Thick) and hosted by Pamela Nash (4&9 Productions) has continued to thrive by altering its platform and now will feature behind the scenes vignettes of local productions as well as coverage of film premieres.
