Darline Yatim Explains the Importance of Variety in Fitness Clubs
For now, forget the phrase ‘stick with what you know’. It is important to find a fitness club that allows you to try everything they have to offer! Why? What if you were a natural competitive tennis player- but never had the chance to pick up a racquet? A fitness club should be much like a college fair- you browse around and feel out each university until you find something that encompasses all that you’re looking for. Try a group dance class, build your strength, swim a few laps in the pool and bring your little ones to splash and play even in the coolest of months, or unwind in yoga - the gym is your oyster! Sometimes it’s difficult for people to reach their peak of health happiness and that is a result of 2 things: excuses and doubt.
Here are a few tips and tricks to help you find your fitness club soul mate:
1. IDENTIFY YOUR FITNESS PERSONALITY: By doing so, you will be able to discover your needs and can then fulfill them through your workout. Are you a social butterfly? If so, group fitness might be a great way to enjoy a work-out AND make new friends. Or maybe you prefer to get in the zone and sweat it out solo, which means basic cardio or conditioning might be a better fit for you!
2. STAFF & INSTRUCTORS:
3. COST: A one size fits all club membership may not be right for you- So find a club that offers a number of different programs and memberships so you’re getting the most bang for your buck! There are memberships that allow you to pay for what you USE not just for all that they OFFER.
4. AMENITIES: Do they have a daycare? Are their hours convenient to your personal/professional life? These are all important things to consider when shopping around for the right gym!
The first step is to find out what motivates you to stay active and the only way you’ll ever find out is to stop limiting yourself and jump right in! So if you feel a little lost, explore and find what makes fitness NOT feel like such a chore. Hey, and if you like it all- that’s not so bad either!
