Columbine High School Orchestra to perform Remembrance Celebration with Fredom Rock Experience

Columbine High School Orchestra & Band plans to “rock the rafters” with award-winning C.T.S. band during innovative fundraising concert

DENVER - April 2, 2014 - PRLog -- It’s only fitting that Brett O'Neill will be the music director for the Freedom Rock Experience fundraising concert featuring the Columbine High School Orchestra & Band and the award-winning C.T.S. rock group on Friday, April 11, 7 p.m., at the Denver First Church of Nazarene.

O’Neill was a senior high school student at Columbine during the tragic shooting which occurred in 1999. “While this concert is an anniversary celebration, our focus is on the future and generating the funding required to keep our music program one of the best in the nation,” said O’Neill.

O’Neill will lead over 120 orchestra and band students during the "Freedom Rock Experience" show, a one of a kind multi-media rock concert where students perform original, award-winning compositions with the C.T.S. rock band, one of the most unique fundraising initiatives for high school music programs.

C.T.S. wrote and recorded "You Won't Be Forgotten,” named Song of the Year by the Military Writer's Guild for honoring US military veterans. Band founder and songwriter, Jeff Senour, also penned the official song for Snowball Express, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting families of fallen military heroes.

“We are honored to have this opportunity to perform our original music with the Columbine students,” said Senour. “Columbine has a world class music program and their many accomplishments speak for themselves. After all, how many high school orchestra’s have been asked to perform at Carnegie Hall?” added Senour.

The concert will also feature a raffle for a Columbine Memorial Guitar signed by all the C.T.S. band members who will be available for a post concert autograph session with all the performing students.

Denver First Church of Nazarene is located at 3800 E. Hamden Avenue in Englewood, Colorado. Doors open at 6 p.m.and all proceeds benefit the Columbine High School music program.

The Columbine High School Instrumental Music Program consists of several performance ensembles featuring the talents of more than 120 students. Recent performances for the "Rebel Marching Band" have included parades at Disney's Orlando & Anaheim Resorts, and the Denver St. Patrick's Day Celebration. The orchestra has shared the stage with recording artist Mark Wood and performed on Broadway in New York City. Columbine's Jazz program has ongoing "gigs” at Dazzle, the Mile High Jazz Festival and the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival. The music program remains successful due to the overwhelming support of the CHS Administration team, socially active community members and the booster organization.
