Vintage Style Returns to Historic Galveston Seawall with 2014 Galveston Island Beach Revue

GALVESTON, Texas - March 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Galveston’s popular Bathing Beauties have a new place to call home as Beach Central, located adjacent to the Hotel Galvez & Spa®, plays host to the annual Galveston Island Beach Revue. The Galveston Island Beach Revue, scheduled on May 16 and 17^th, is Galveston’s official kick-off to summer. Admission to the event is free to the public and offers a weekend of family-friendly events headlined by the Bathing Beauties Contest. Hotel Galvez & Spa®, A Wyndham Grand Hotel, is the title sponsor of the event.

The annual event, held the third weekend of May, benefits Galveston’s Family Service Center with a percentage of profits going towards the Island non-profit.

Schedule Overview:

Friday, May 16

·         6 p.m. - Festival & craft beer booth opens

·         6:30-8:30 p.m. - Live music

·         8:30 – 8:45 p.m. - Introduction of 2014 Bathing Beauties from

·         8:45-10 p.m. - Free outdoor showing of “Girl Happy,” starring Elvis Presley

Saturday, May 17

·         12 p.m. - Festival, vendors and craft beer booth opens

·         12 – 5 p.m. - Family Service Center’s “Retro-Active” games

·         12 – 3 p.m. - Charcoal Championship Cookoff

·         12 p.m. – 5 p.m. - Vendor demonstrations on main stage

·         5 – 7 p.m. - Bathing Beauties Contest

·         7 – 8 p.m. - Live music by The Octanes

·         8:15 – 10 p.m. - Live music by Grand Old Grizzly

About the Galveston Island Beach Revue

Dubbed the "Pageant of Pulchritude" by C.E. Barfield, Galveston's Bathing Beauties Contest began in the summer of 1920 and marked the kick-off for tourist season each year. By 1928, the event, which had morphed into the "bathing girl revue" had become so popular, the Island's population was said to have tripled during the event weekend. These Island pageants were the beginning of what we know today as the Miss Universe Pageant. The famed Galveston Bathing Beauties pageants ended in 1932 due in part to the Great Depression and were resurrected in 2009 by Islander By Choice, LLC.
