Catherine Moniaci, R.N., M.S. Appointed Administrator at Shriners Hospital for Children - Houston

HOUSTON - March 27, 2014 - PRLog -- Bryan Corey, Chairman of the Shriners Houston Hospital Board of Governors announced that Catherine “Cathy” Moniaci, R.N., M.S. has been appointed as Administrator of the Hospital having served as Acting Administrator for the past several months. Moniaci joined the hospital staff in 1997 as the Director of Patient Care Services and was promoted to Director of Operations in 2012. Moniaci is responsible for the efficient and smooth operation of the daily oversight of the 40-bed hospital which provides pediatric orthopaedic, cleft lip and palate, inpatient rehabilitation, and sub-acute specialty care.

“Cathy has demonstrated that she is a decisive, yet caring leader who emphasizes providing excellent patient care in a well-organized and effective manner.” said Corey. “The Shriners look forward to working with her to continue to improve upon and expand these efforts.”

Moniaci is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all departments at the hospital and follows the direction set forth by the regional SHC Board of Governors and the national SHC executive leaderships based in Tampa, Florida. Some of her key responsibilities include: monitoring hospital operations; implementing policy changes and procedures; budgeting; and hiring of key hospital personnel. She works collaboratively with Dr. Douglas Barnes, Chief of Staff, Orthopaedic Surgeon, to complete these functions.

“Cathy’s clinical background in the Texas Medical Center and extensive medical knowledge-base, make her uniquely qualified to take on the role as Administrator, especially now in this rapidly changing health care environment,” stated Dr. Barnes.

Moniaci began her career in Houston as a Staff Nurse/Assistant Head Nurse in Oncology and Medicine at Hermann Hospital. She was promoted to Unit Director over the Oncology, Hematology, Medicine and Chronic units and served as the Nursing Director for both the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Special Care Unit. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ball State University College of Nursing in Indiana, and her Master of Science from Texas Women’s University in Houston. She currently serves as consulting faculty at Texas Woman’s University in Houston for the Master of Science in Nursing program as well as the Master’s program in Health Administration.  She has received her certificate in health finance through the Health Finance Management Association and American Association of Nurse Executives as well as being a member of the Health Finance Management Association and Texas Medical Center Quality Council.
