“A lot of people wait until those last games, the regionals, semifinals, and the championship to begin thinking about getting everyone together for a March Madness party. Doing that misses out on a lot of great fun that can start right now,” continued Paxton.  Here are three easy ways to make a March Madness party great at any time during the games.

Dress the Part – Really bring the feeling of the games home by dressing up for the event. Tell guests to wear their favorite team colors, and be the referee, or a coach. When inviting guests, add instructions to the invitation so all of the people involved know what to expect, and leave a spot on the invitation where they can place their bet on the team winner and/or points. When guests come to the door, have them drop their invite into a hat, bowl or other container, and sort them quickly as the game goes on. For an extra special treat, have little grab bag items, gag gifts, or a food treat for those that win the bet.

Don’t Just Watch—Play – The games are great, but they don’t take up a lot of time. To ensure the party isn’t over before it even gets started, have lots of game ideas that will get guests involved and having so much fun they do not want to leave.

Toss around nerf basketballs into mini hoops set up around the house. When the weather permits, set up a regular hoop outdoors and play one on one, or have free throw competitions.

Trivia games are great fun during the down times and commercials of the game. Have a bunch of basketball trivia written up on cards, and, as the referee, call out questions to the crowd. The first one to answer correctly gets a point, and the one with the most points at the end gets a prize.

Warm Up the Hot Tub – It’s spring! Get everyone outdoors and jump into the hot tub to enjoy the games. Any hot tub March Madness party will be remembered for a long time. Hosting a hot tub game party gives party goers a fun way to enjoy the game instead of just sitting on a couch in the living room. Tune into the games with the built in TV, or set the television a few feet away from the hot tub. Make sure there is plenty to drink and eat, located within arm’s reach of the water, and everyone is sure to have a great time.
