PVinsights : Polysilicon and multi wafer price downtrend should persist on April

Polysilicon price is expected to drop 1-3.5% next week. Overall weakening downstream demand is adding pressure on polysilicon procurement and pricing. Spot polysilicon in China is dropping below 160RMB/kg.

March 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Solar module price is expected to remain on moderate downtrend next week in the range 0-1%. Weakening downtrend system deployment demand in China and Japan continuously add pressure to module pricing. Some Chinese module players are cutting prices to promote sales supporting the current utilizations without cutting headcounts. With the ending of its fiscal year, Japan is also entering the slow PV system deployment season. Therefore, overall module price should drop next week.

Solar cell price is expected to moderately drop next week from 0-1%. Cell demand in China remains weak as Chinese module makers procure more Taiwanese cells to manufacture modules for US export due to the US antidumping case against Taiwanese cells. Therefore, solar cell price in China drops more dramatically. On the other hand, some Taiwanese cell companies take advantage of the current solid demand from China to force a price raise. As such, overall cell price should only experience moderate price decline next week.

Multi wafer price is expected to continue on the downtrend next week in the range of 1-3.5%. Multi wafer price in China drops more dramatically as its domestic cell demand remains weak and demand outlook dims in Apr. Spot price in China lost its previous price uptrend momentum and drop to similar pricing level with contract price. In Taiwan, wafer companies also face increasing price cut pressure as Taiwanese cell companies resist further wafer price increase. On the other hand, mono wafer price is expected to remain stable next week as dropping polysilicon price adds price cut pressure to mono wafers.

Polysilicon price is expected to drop 1-3.5% next week. Overall weakening downstream demand is adding pressure on polysilicon procurement and pricing. Spot polysilicon in China is dropping below 160RMB/kg. On the other hand, polysilicon traded outside of China also face increasing price cut pressure with overall weaker solar supply chain demand outlook. Therefore, polysilicon price is expected to drop more dramatically next week.
