Friendship Village Tempe Gets 'Fresh' with Dining Renovations
$1.4 Million Expansion Brings Modern Amenities, Trendy Options to Phoenix Metro Seniors
“It’s always been important for us at Friendship Village to offer the highest quality of dining services,” said Bob Fern, dining services director. “Our recent expansion allows us to continue offering the quality our residents have come to expect, while also bringing new ideas and creativity to the table.”
Friendship Village Tempe worked with RSP Architects of Tempe on the $1.4 million project, which includes a brand-new Village Café, a renovated restaurant called The Fireside, and more grab-and-go options for on-the-go seniors.
In addition to the new physical dining venues, this expansion and renovation includes an investment in fresh food. The dining staff is now making brick oven pizza, rotisserie chicken, handmade sausages, fresh-baked rolls from scratch daily and world-class barbecue in a commercial smoker. In fact, the newly implemented sushi option sold out each of its first three days. There’s also an “action station” that rotates offering various concepts such as Mongolian-style wok dishes, Spanish paella and cioppino.
The dining renovations embrace current and future residents’ use of technology, as each venue is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, and there are wall outlets in close proximity to each table for keeping devices such as smartphones, laptops and tablets charged.
“These renovations emphasize the modern options and variety today’s older adults expect of their dining at a senior living community,” said executive director Cole Marvin. “The response by residents has been ecstatic, because we’ve kept the foundation of delicious food, and have been able to incorporate new presentation methods and flexible dining arrangements for our residents, enhancing their overall experience.”
