Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast Thank Spring Season Sponsors for their Generosity

VERO BEACH, Fla. - March 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast is pleased to announce and thank its spring season sponsors, the Indian River Community Foundation's Future Leaders Professional Advisors Council and Girard Equipment. Because of their generosity, Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast was able to expand into more middle schools and  accept more 6^th through 8^th grade participants than ever before.

Girls on the Run is a non-profit youth development program which seeks to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. The program culminates with the girls completing a celebratory 5K. The goal is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness in elementary and middle school aged girls.

As a grant award recipient from The Indian River Community Foundation’s Future Leaders Professional Advisors Council, Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast has been able to expand to both Gifford and Oslo Middle Schools offering the specialized Girls on Track  program. This important curriculum places a special emphasis on the issues middle school girls might face and allows for more mature processing. Demand was so high for the program at Gifford Middle School that two teams were created.

While cost for the program is affordable, no child is denied participation due to an ability to pay. A reduced rate is also offered to students who are eligible for free or reduced lunches at school. Many of the Gifford Middle School teachers graciously paid the reduced rate for many students to participate in the program. Upon learning about the teachers’ participation, Girard Equipment generously funded a scholarship bank, making it possible for any child needing financial support to participate in the program.

Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast is ever so grateful for the support of the Community, Indian River Community Foundation’s Future Leaders Professional Advisors Council and Girard Equipment for making this spring season possible!

There are many opportunities for community support within the Girls on the Run program. Volunteer coaches are always needed to lead the program at area schools. Those who enjoy running are invited to serve as “running buddies,” running alongside a participant during the girls practice and final 5K. Volunteers are needed to help plan special events and serve on committees. Local businesses and individuals are being sought to sponsor the Girls on the Run program at additional elementary and middle schools, and to provide scholarships for those families unable to pay.
