March 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Basement waterproofing is an essential aspect of any cellar conversion project as it ensures that water cannot enter a building and cause damp, mould and other problems leading to damaged structures. The Twistfix range of basement tanking systems is widely used by many builders and specialist basement contractors in the process of damp proofing a basement.

A Twistfix-registered contractor recently contacted us to let us know the details of their current project. Extensive work had to be carried out on a cottage in Surrey that had been severely damaged by damp due to an inadequate waterproofing system that had been incorrectly installed some 10 years earlier. An unpleasant smell had developed in the basement due to the damp walls and puddles of standing water on the floor. The previous damp proofing contractors clearly had no real understanding of modern basement waterproofing systems and, as they were no longer around, their guarantee was worthless. The owner of the cottage was left with no recourse but to have the job done again.

A complete basement conversion was carried out which involved a number of jobs including new supports for the floor, cut-outs to the front wall and the installation of a staircase. The floor, which was previously unlevel and thus unsuitable, was replaced with a single structural slab. The basement waterproofing system chosen was a pumped method and Baseline waterproofing membrane was used on the walls and ceilings, forming a tight and effective seal. Building Control checked the work and found it to exceed all standards.

There are still a few days left in which to take advantage of the special offer currently available on the Twistfix Baseline 8 Waterproofing Membrane Kit. Perfect for waterproofing the walls and floors of a basement in preparation for conversion, the kit contains everything needed to enable dry-wall lining on studs and the direct laying of floors. Waterproofing tape plus 200 brick plugs with ready-mounted waterproof seals are included along with the innovative and effective membrane.
