Muslims for Progressive Values Secures United Nation's Consultative Status
Muslims for Progressive Values was welcomed on December 21, 2013 as a non-governmental association member with the United Nations' Department of Public Information.
The NGO/DPI Executive Committee represents 1500 NGO organizations with monthly meetings and subcommittee meetings.
As a recognized Non Governmental Organization (NGO), MPV's consultative status at the UN will enable us to address and to argue against intolerant positions that are being defined and justified in the name of Islam at the highest international institutions. We are excited that we can now reshape the perception of Islam by offering an inclusive and loving alternative at the international level that can potentially shift and empower Muslims at the grass-roots level.
In June, MPV will participate in collaboration with other like minded organizations, at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. At the 2014 Annual Conference, which will have a theme of "The Role of Civil Society in the Post-2015 Agenda", we will be hosting panel discussions and other activities in support of our stance of freedom of expression/from religion and human rights for all.
