125 artworks by Picasso, Renoir, Warhol, Hirst, Calder, Lichtenstein, others will be sold March 30th

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - March 19, 2014 - PRLog -- WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – 125 modern and contemporary works of art, inclusive of traditional, blue chip and cutting edge by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Nancy Graves, Tomas Sanchez and Tokujin Yoshioka will be auctioned by A.B. Levy’s, in an evening sale of fine art on Sunday, March 30, at their Flamingo Building in West Palm Beach.

The facility is located at 1921 South Dixie Highway, not far from A.B. Levy’s main gallery, at 211 Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. The works of art are presently on exhibition in the Palm Beach gallery through Sunday, March 23^rd, They will then be moved to the Flamingo location for preview through Saturday, March 29^th. The evening sale of fine art will begin at approximately 6 p.m. (EST), upon the conclusion of a day sale of mainly European furniture, antiques, estate jewelry and select 19^th century paintings scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

The evening fine art sale boasts four lots by Picasso and an iconic Warhol. One of the Picasso’s is an early dry point etching from the artist’s Blue Period, titled Femmes regardant un Modle (1923), signed in pencil and numbered 17/100. It is conservatively estimated to fetch

$20,000-$30,000. Warhol’s is a pink Marilyn Monroe, one of the most recognizable Pop images in the world and one that could be considered a must-have for any beginning collector. (est. $10,000-$20,000).

One of two of the lots expected to top the $ 100,000 mark is a bronze of a whimsical rabbit by Barry Flanagan (Welch, 1941-2009), titled Stagedoor Johnny, (# 5 from an edition of 8), which carries a $100,000-$150,000 pre sale auction estimate.

One lot comprises six color silkscreens by John Chamberlain (American., b. 1927), titled Flashback. Each measures 28 inches by 19 ½ inches, which in a two-dimensional form is reminiscent of the artist's automobile part sculptures in both coloring and distinct shapes.

Two lithographs by Marc Chagall (Russ./Fr., 1887-1985) are also included in the sale. One titled The Little Red Horse (1975) is estimated at $6,000-$9,000.

An iconic work by an artist who is often the topic of conversation within the art world is a “circular spin painting” by Damien Hirst (b. 1965). The 1960’s referenced work is inscribed to a friend (“for Sidnie”) and carries a pre-sale estimate of $28,000 to $35,000. Also, a 1989 color lithograph by Roy Lichtenstein (Am., 1923-1997), titled Blonde (from the artist’s Brushstroke Series), numbered 35 of 60, is expected to exceed its conservative estimate of $8,000-$12,000.

A signed and dated lithograph (or multiple) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (Fr., 1841-1919), of one of the artist’s most popular renderings, titled Le Chapeau Epingle (1897), one of 100 impressions, should breeze past $20,000-$30,000. An acrylic on canvas by Italian artist Giancarlo Impiglia (b. 1974), titled Street Life I (1986), 40 inches by 32 inches, and carrying a $6,000-$9,000 pre-sale estimate, would seem to pay homage to the earlier Italian Futurists.

An acrylic on canvas by American artist Paul Jenkins (1923-2012), titled Phenomena PrismAnvil (2004), an energetic painterly abstract work measuring 45 inches by 57 ½ inches, should rise to $25,000 to 35,000; while a wool pile rug showing the famous L-O-V-E image by Robert Indiana and titled Winter Love (1970), 72 inches square (94/300), should bring $3,000-$5,000.

A small but refined selection of Latin American art will feature an untitled landscape work by the Cuban-born artist Tomas Sanchez (b. 1948), showing foliage done in watercolor, signed and dated (est. $20,000-$25,000); and a surrealist oil on canvas titled Olor a Lluvia (1965) by Arnoldo Coen (Mex., b. 1940), who was encouraged to paint by the muralist Diego Rivera. The painting carries a pre-sale estimate of $6,000-$8,000).

The earlier day sale contains a small group of European 19^th century paintings, including an oil painting in the tradition of Canaletto, of Boats on the Venetian Lagoon, which has been attributed to the 19^th century artist Felix Ziem. Estimated at just $ 20,000-$30,000, this painting will be the object of intense competition. The day sale also features good 18^th century Italian furniture, Italian micro-mosaic and pietre dure plaques, plus 100 lots of estate and gold jewelry.

Between the day and evening sales, a total of 375 lots will come up for bid. Internet bidding will be provided by three platforms: LiveAuctioneers.com, Invaluable.com (formerly Artfact.com) and Saleroom.com. A buyer’s premium of 20% will be applied to all purchases up to $100,000 (15% after that). Phone and absentee bids will be taken, in addition to live and internet bidding.
