BOCA RATON, Fla. - March 18, 2014 - PRLog -- With Spring just days away, Worthy Spaces (http://www.worthyspaces.com), a Boca Raton-based organizational business, has put together a few key organizational tips to help kick off the annual tradition of Spring Cleaning.

“Spring break is typically the ideal time to take a break and relax,” said Michelle Worthington, professional organizer and owner of Worthy Spaces. “But for those that don’t have any travel plans, it can also be a great time to tackle your disorganized spaces…so ultimately you will be able to relax and enjoy the long term benefits of being in an organized space. As I always say, it’s worth your time to organize!”

Worthington recommends getting started with the following commonly disorganized spots:

1.       Junk Drawer

Throw out the expired coupons, old receipts, stale gum, etc.  Return rarely used household tools to their proper place in the garage.  Return the plethora of pens & pencils to the office/desk area.

2.       Pantry

Let’s start with the food! Any candy from last Easter is a best bet to throw out. Halloween candy - do the same! Be sure to view expiration dates on condiments, pastas & snacks. As you come across items you know you won’t use that haven’t expired, keep your local food bank in mind. Food banks need food donations year round – not just during the holidays!

3.       Closets

For the northerners: it looks like winter weather is lasting longer than normal for most which makes now a great time to go through closets and assess your cold weather items.  Remove (donate) items that have not been worn all season. It was a long winter which means if it hasn't been worn recently it probably isn't worth saving for the next winter. For my fellow Floridians: go through your hoodies, keeping only a few. Go through your tank tops and flip flops, rotating the outdated or most worn items. A great tip is to keep a basket or a bin in your closet to collect the empty hangers daily. Your closet will appear cleaner without having hundreds of empty hangers sticking out. Not to mention, the ease of hanging clean clothes without having to do the empty hanger search. Now you can just grab one from the hanger basket.

4.       Kids’ Rooms

Do you have a kid’s room that looks like a disaster zone? Try to work on the room with your child. Encourage the donation of items that have not been played with for a while. Enable your child to help keep the room organized by having cloths put away or hung at the right height. Set the expectations with your kids on what an organized room would look like and enforce with consequences if the newly organized space turns back into a disaster.

5.       Garage

It is the perfect time to get into the garage and organize before the weather gets too hot!  Start the garage project a day or two before your trash day. First remove any large items (e.g., trash, donations); then start working from one side of the door – working your way around the garage clockwise, sorting like items together.
