Cerritos College Offers 1st Smog Certification Course on Campus

The Advanced Transportation Technology and Energy program (ATTE) and Economic and Workforce Development (EWD), California Workforce Investment Board (WIB), and Workforce Connections collaborated to offer the Smog Certification for Testers course.

NORWALK, Calif. - March 17, 2014 - PRLog -- The Advanced Transportation Technology and Energy program (ATTE) was created as a means for keeping California competitive as a national leader in advanced transportation and energy technologies and to transform the workforce in the rapidly developing, technology-driven transportation and energy industries, while improving the environment and stimulating the economy.

The course started in November 2013 and was completed January 2014 at Cerritos College Automotive Partners building. In the course, the students learned how to become smog check inspectors. Eight students completed the 180 hours for the smog certification for testers course. Their certification will allow them to qualify to take the California State Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Exam as a Smog Check Inspector.

The Smog course was offered to address the needs in the industry and to assist with employment placement.

“The students all had a minimum of 6 months automotive experience. We provide them with additional training to gain employment as a smog check inspector. The program allows the students to continue their careers with advanced skills in an emissions related field. We hope to offer the program again in the future,” said Jannet Malig, Director of ATTE.
