Human population would have extinct long ago, if the modern modes and methods of controlling diseases wouldn’t have evolved. Health and human development forms an integral component of overall socio-economic development of any nation. Every society has its own cultural system and concepts of health, hygiene, diseases, treatment and care are perceived differently. It is this difference in perception that results in variations in understanding the causes of an illness and its treatment across the communities. In all traditional societies the system of medicine was based on magic, religion or plants. These were used for curing a sickness either separately or in combination with other systems of medicine. The book on Health and Hygiene based on a Lamani tribal community from an Anthropological Perspective will give us clear idea about the existing Health and Hygienic conditions in the tribal society. This has been brilliantly integrated with the approach to health of environmental epidemiology and multidimensional development approach of socio-cultural and economic analysis of the community and treatment seeking behavioral patterns of Lamanis of Bellary district in particular and in the state in general. The book is good to read for everyone who are concerned about their health and hygiene and are curious to know about the implications of the same. The language and terminologies used by the author is understandable and any reader can interpret and digest easily.
