BROOKINGS, Ore. - March 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Photographs of Russian tanks have been posted on Facebook showing a tank column near the town of Sudzha, Russia, within five miles of the Ukraine boarder.

In Kiev, the Foreign Ministry said Russian military forces are staging troops on the Ukrainian-Russian boarder and are continuing to expand military forces in the southern Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which Moscow is attempting to take over.

According to Russia’s Interfax news agency, some 50 Ukrainian border service facilities have been blockaded or seized by Russian troops. Andriy Parubiy, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, told Ukrainian television that Russian forces are “two to three hours away from Kiev.”

Lawmakers in Crimea have scheduled a referendum Sunday on whether the region should secede from Ukraine and join Russia. President Obama and European leaders have promised economic and diplomatic retaliation if that happens.

An American official said the Obama administration is “still considering” a request from Ukraine’s interim government for military assistance. The buildup on Ukraine’s eastern border with Russia signaled possible further moves by the Kremlin to reassert authority over territory heavily populated by Russians, forfeited in the Soviet Union breakup two decades ago.

Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, said the U.S. is sending 12 F-16 fighter jets to Poland to augment the air force detachment there. The Pentagon recently sent six F-15 fighter jets to Lithuania to bolster air patrols over the Baltics.

In Belarus, and ally of Russia, President Alexander Lukashenko said Wednesday that Russia should respond to the U.S. and NATO actions by basing 12 to 15 more fighter jets in his country.

Tim Ripley, a military analyst for Jane’s Defence Weekly, stated, “Russia may be using psychological warfare against Ukraine, and intimidation to try and deter the Ukrainians from carrying out any military engagement against the occupation force in Crimea.”

Some Bible scholars believe current events are merely a dress rehearsal for Russia’s appointment with destiny. In 570 B.C. the prophet Ezekiel said that in the “last days” the Jewish people would be brought back to the land of Israel and they would be invaded by an army from Magog. (Ezekiel 38:2 &8.) According to historians Hesiod and Josephus, Magog was the father of an ancient groups of people known as the Scythians. Josephus said, “Magog founded the Magogians, thus they were named after him, but who by the Greeks are called the Scythians.

The Scythians are the nomadic tribesmen who settled in the Russian steppes, the Caucasus mountains and the Black Sea. The homeland of the ancient Scythians is a geographical area that today includes parts of Russia, Ukraine, and also the Central Asian republics of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kirghizia.

In 1942, Louis Bauman wrote a book entitled, “Russian Events in the Light of Bible Prophecy”. In this book he stated he believed Israel would become a nation again, and a leader in Russia would lead a military coalition, which would include Iran and Germany, and would invade Israel. Many believe we are getting closer to Russia’s appointment with destiny.
