Using the new functionality, developers can quickly create mobile applications that leverage a company’s investment in stored procedures. The Espresso Designer exposes stored procedures as REST/JSON resources while the supporting infrastructure is handled by the Espresso service. In November 2013, Espresso announced the industry’s first reactive logic programming-based database backend as a service along with $1.6 million in seed funding from Inventus Capital ( Espresso enables creation of enterprise class RESTful APIs to databases for use in mobile and web application development. It also provides the flexibility of server side JavaScript along with the expressive power of Reactive Programming to reduce development backlog for enterprise applications.

New Features In-Depth

The new stored procedure support is virtually automatic. Stored procedures are cataloged when Espresso introspects the schema. Security is overlaid on the stored procedures just as they are on tables and other REST endpoints. Some of the features include:

·       Call stored procedures with any number or type of parameters (input and output) including multiple result sets and REF CURSORs

·       Supports SQL Server 2005 or above, Oracle Database version 10.2 and higher, MySQL Database version 5.0 and higher and Windows Azure SQL

·       Results are returned in a discoverable JSON structure

Version 1.2 of Espresso with support for stored procedures and many usability enhancements is available now. A shared server version is available for free, with dedicated server starting at $50/month.
