The Colony Hotel's Royal Room Presents Broadway & TV Star TOM WOPAT, March 18-22
TOM WOPAT, March 18-22
(Palm Beach, FL - March 11, 2014) The Colony Hotel - which The Palm Beach Post has hailed as “probably the best place for cabaret on the planet” – is continuing its star-studded season with the return of a Royal Room favorite:
All it takes is a phrase or two from Tom Wopat's warm, engaging baritone to trigger the desire to hear more. And the more one listens, the better it gets -- from the way he finds the heart of a song’s story to his lyrical phrasing and his gently swinging, jazz-infused rhythms. Although he may be best known for his starring role in the '80s hit television series The Dukes of Hazzard, his stellar career has included Broadway roles in 1999’s Annie Get Your Gun and 2008’s Catered Affair (he received Tony Award nominations for both), as well as Chicago, Forty-Second St., Sondheim on Sondheim and more. In recent years, he appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s film Django Unchained, the ABC Family film Lovestruck with Jane Seymour, and released his eighth album I’ve Got Your Number.
Reviews of Tom Wopat:
+ Stephen Holden in The New York Times: “Because both Tom Wopat and Frank Sinatra are saloon singers who imprint their personalities on everything they perform, they are kindred spirits… What he shares with Sinatra is an ability to live inside whatever he sings
+ Backstage: "Throughout the show, (Wopat) gets to display his obvious flair for jazzy swing tunes, evoking Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra."
+ Theatermania.com: "Tom Wopat has always been an intriguing mixture of velvet and sandpaper, and both sides of this musical cloth are abundantly evident in his highly entertaining and overstuffed new show at the Algonquin Hotel’s Oak Room… When Wopat exhibits his tender touch, the show truly soars into the artistic stratosphere.”
