By: Tenji

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - March 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Tenji Inc. is proud to have been selected as the firm responsible for the design and construction of the exhibits and associated seawater systems at the Gulf Marine Centre (GAMS). The world-class facility will be built on the waterfront of Grand Etang Harbour, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The Centre will combine live exhibits, interactive displays and a research lab. The Gulf Marine Centre will also serve as an inviting meeting space to welcome and engage both the visiting public and members of the region’s educational community.

Tenji’s extensive exhibit design expertise will accurately recreate immersive displays that reflect the local ecosystem and marine history of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The space will be designed to facilitate changing exhibits and engaging permanent attractions. A jellyfish cylinder, schooling fishes display, touch tank and pier piling aquarium are among the many exhibits being built by Tenji for GAMS.

“Our connections with Tenji were fortuitous- something meant to be! We visited LL Bean in Freeport, Maine, and were very taken by the huge salmon tank that was attracting so many people. Wondering who created it, we came home and searched for Tenji from the small label that we found on the exhibit.” said Gretchen Noyes-Hull, President Board of Trustees GAMS.

In addition to stunning live displays and educational exhibits, Tenji will install laboratory facilities equipped with high quality flowing seawater systems. Laboratory space will be designed to support marine research of various types by individuals, educational institutions and governmental agencies. The laboratory design will meet the stringent requirements for research with the flexibility needed for specific individual projects. “Initially we anticipate that Nova Scotia Colleges and Universities will be using our wet lab facilities- Dalhousie University, St Francis Xavier University, and Cape Breton University. We assume that the list will grow- this will be the only research facility on the Southern Gulf of St Lawrence, and the only on the Gulf side of Nova Scotia” said Noyes-Hull.

Ed Seidel, Principle at Tenji Inc., stated that “Tenji has a proven record of designing successful multi-use facilities that provide great entertainment and educational value with the capability to conduct cutting-edge marine research in the lab.”  The Gulf Marine Centre will be a hub for tourists and locals to come together to learn about and share experiences around fisheries, oceans, and all the organisms that inhabit them. The added dimension of a research space will bring scientists and the public together to learn and work cooperatively. Constant sharing, learning, and exploring brings the Gulf of St. Lawrence to life in the community and will make it a focal point for future research and education.

About Gulf Marine Aquarium and Marine Station Cooperative GAMS

The GAMS cooperative was formed in 2007 to establish the Gulf Marine Centre, promoting the sustainability of the Southern Gulf of St Lawrence's fascinating ecosystems, rich, invaluable resources, and the communities and industries that rely on them. By educating the local community and the public at large about these organisms, resources, industries, the ever-growing body of research surrounding them, and the challenges they face, we hope to facilitate collaboration between the diverse stakeholders that all depend on that sustainability.
