By: a2zdiet-plan For the study Researchers analyzed meal selection and disposal among 5,936 students from low-income, urban school for two days each in 2011 and 2012. Finding suggest that after proving new guidelines of food in US there was no increase in food waste and food selection was increased from 52.7% to 75.7%. So students were eating more fruits rather than throwing away. Dr. cohen says that offering fruits and vegetables will not enough to to improve overall standard. But schools should find creative ways to engage students by providing health snacks fir kids in variety to get rid of food waste. In India if we look at rural area, there is rule of providing lunch to kids during school. According to global report by the World Food Project (WFP) for 2013 on 169 countries India is ranked 12th. India Is largest school feeding programme in world. This programme is basically called mid day meal in India. Many times news revealed that the food provided to students were not of good quality. Many students fall ill after having that mid day meal. In Dec, 2013 there was news that in Bihar 40 students diet and dozens more fell ill after having mid day meal. In Nov, 2013, in Maharashtra also 493 students fall ill after having mid day meal cake in Mumbai. This increased concerns in parents about their child’s health in India. Many parents refused to have mid day meal for their children and this resulted in food waste. By keeping in mind the findings of US research India can also improve their mid day programme quality. So there should be more involvement of healthy snacks fir kids like fruits, vegetables etc. This will not only help to improve quality standard of schools but will also help to maintain the health of children. Fruits and vegetables option will work sure for India schools as most of students are form very low income family and not get chance to have fruits like this. This will help to decrease in food waste and improve diet standard. More info: http://www.a2zdiet- End
