March 7, 2014 - PRLog -- MESA (AZ)—Brighton Publishing LLC is pleased to announce the print release of Frank Monastra’s riveting biographical account, Brancato: “Mafia Street Boss.” Author Frank Monastra, grandson of notorious mobster Frank Brancato, takes readers on a ride through the often turbulent life of one of the most feared lynchpins in the Sicilian underworld. Brancato: “Mafia Street Boss” is distributed in print through Ingram, the world’s largest book distributor, and is available in both print and eBook format from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other leading book retailers worldwide. Brighton Publishing titles are also available worldwide via the Espresso Book Machine.

Frank Monastra knew his grandfather to be a kind-hearted, soft-spoken, tire salesman. He was also the right-hand man of Cleveland Mafia Boss, John Scalish.

It was the 1920s and the days of prohibition were at their peak. Times were changing rapidly, and for Sicilian immigrant Frank Brancato, an opportunity would soon present itself to assume his place among the ranks of Cleveland’s powerful Mafia underworld.

Brancato’s demeanor and no-nonsense approach would eventually garner him the name “Mafia Street Boss,” as well as a foot soldier position working with the formidable Lonardo and Porrello families.

Throughout the years, various agents—G-Men—had made attempts to pin mob-style ‘hits’ on Brancato. However, eyewitnesses would suddenly disappear or die from an unexpected—or mysterious—illness. Cases would quickly fall apart for lack of evidence, and…

…Brancato would walk away clean.

Brancato moved quickly up the La Cosa Nostra ladder. Allegedly, in 1972, one year before his death, he took on his last role within the Mafia family—Consigliere.

“Crafted from years of research and first-hand knowledge of his grandfather, author Frank Monastra writes a riveting, true-to-life account of one of the 20th-century’s most interesting characters,” said Kathie McGuire, director of Brighton Publishing LLC. “Painted with the brushstrokes of a master wordsmith, Brancato: “Mafia Street Boss” evokes the classic terms and imagery of the day, and is packed with potent and affecting descriptions of life in the Mafia family.”

Author Frank Monastra is the grandson of Frank Brancato and has conducted years of research on his grandfather, as well as the crime families he associated with. Mr. Monastra recalls that he was always told by his parents that his grandfather was a tire salesman. Mr. Monastra currently resides in Cleveland with his beautiful wife of fourteen years, his three children, and five grandchildren.
