HARTFORD, Conn. - March 6, 2014 - PRLog -- H. Brian Dumeer, Esq., has been selected as the new Chairman of the Foundation Board for Middlesex Community College, Middletown and Meriden.  The Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization established to support the growth and development of Middlesex Community College and the students it serves.  By raising and managing funds that support student success through scholarships, program enhancements, campus development, and professional opportunities for faculty, the Foundation plays an essential role in keeping opportunities for high quality higher education available and accessible for students from throughout the region from Rocky Hill in the north to Westbrook and Old Saybrook on the shore.

Attorney Dumeer is a native of Middletown where he grew up attending local schools. He graduated from Xavier High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island.  He also earned his J.D. degree from Roger Williams in 2009 and interned during his studies with the Office of the Middlesex County State’s Attorney.  Upon graduation with his Juris Doctor, Atty. Dumeer joined a shoreline law firm, later returning to Middletown in 2012 to form the firm of Carlson & Dumeer LLC.  The firm’s practice focuses on personal injury and criminal defense in Connecticut and Massachusetts.   Atty. Dumeer is active in civic and professional affairs and is a member of the Middlesex County Bar Association, the Middlesex United Way,and the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce.  He has served on the Middlesex Community College Foundation Board as Vice Chair and Chair of its Fund Raising Committee.  In accepting the position of Chair, succeeding George A. Eames IV, Attorney Dumeer expressed his gratitude to the Board for their trust in him and described his goal for the Foundation as strengthening the Board’s work in raising funds to ensure that every student in the region has a chance to find success through accessible and affordable higher education.  His commitment to expanding educational opportunities in Middlesex County springs from his roots in the region and from the dedication of family members who are long time educators in Middletown and nearby communities.  His goal is to take the college from being the “best kept secret” in the area to being well known as “the best opportunity.”

With higher education becoming a requirement for success in Connecticut’s competitive job market, Middlesex Community College provides students with associate degrees and certificates for college transfer, career preparatioan, and an improved quality of life for themselves, their families and communities throughout the region.  Nearly 4,000 students enrolled in credit courses seeking a degree or certificate in fall 2013; a nearly equivalent number enroll throughout the year in non-credit programs to gain new skills for personal and professional development.    As a result of ongoing declines in state funding for public higher education, fund raising through its Foundation has become an essential part of the college’s efforts to meet growing student demand for higher education and at the same time to ensure their success in college- level study and career readiness through state-of-the-art programs supported by the latest instructional technology and learning resources.  An example of cutting-edge programming supported by the Foundation is the college’s New Media Program which offers degrees in Broadcast-Cinema, Multimedia, and Communications along with certificates in web design, 3-D animation, gaming, news and sports production, new and social media, all of which are supported by technology-rich labs and production studios – a unique resource in the region – which will prepare students for careers throughout the communications industry. The development of the program is being funded by a combination of state funding, grants, and private donations through the Foundation.
