PRLog -- Author Dr. V. Jagadeesh was born on 11.1.1970 in Bellary district of Karnataka. After completing his Graduation and Post-Graduation in Anthropology, he opted for the Doctoral Degree and was awarded the degree from the Karnatak University, in the year 1998 under the guidance of Ex-Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry. After joining the Department of Anthropology in 1997 at Karnatak College as a teaching faculty, he participated and presented research articles in various national/International Journals. He also participated in IUAES at 16th world congress, in Kunming, China-2009, Antalya, Turkey-2010 and as a chairperson and panel convener to the panel - Medical anthropology and epidemiological paradigms on new anthropology in Manchester, United Kingdom-2013. Apart from this, he has completed a number of projects sponsored by UGC, New-Delhi and Ethnographic Studies assigned by the Govt. of Karnataka, India. Presently, he is working as a Head, Department of Anthropology, at Karnatak University's, Karnatak College, Dharwad, Karnataka.
India is a country of villages. The success of democracy solely depends on the upliftment of the backwards. The majority of Indian population resides in these villages and for the real meaning of democracy to come true their participation is a must. The need of the hour is decentralization power at the central and the state level and authority has to be vested at the grassroots level. Therefore, the study of political awareness, a comparative study among Lamani Tribe (Authropo-Political perspective)
among two Lamani settlements of Bellary District in the Karnataka State gives us an important clue for understanding the nature, function and organization of Lamanis. The entire book has been systematically divided into well conceived six chapters on the basis of empirical investigations. The author has made a commendable attempt to introduce the world with the socio-political structure among the Lamanis Tribe of Karnataka. The comparison among two of their settlement further highlights the implications of change in their operational structure. The book is a great source of learning and is an ideal one to understand the true meaning and impact of democracy. At the end, a serious attempt has been made to make policy prescriptions which will be used by the policy makers in the Government, NGOs, professional Social Scientists and by everyone who is interested in the welfare and progress of the backward communities in India.
