Nagios Plugins Development Team Releases Nagios Plugins 2.0
The 2.0 release of the project contains numerous bug-fixes, feature enhancements, and plugin additions that improve and extend the functionality of both Nagios XI and Nagios Core. Included in the release is the check_uptime plugin that is designed to provide the ability to monitor uptime of various Linux devices.
“We are extremely pleased with the 2.0 release of the plugins project,” said team lead Andy Brist. “We analyzed every line of code and systematically updated the over 60 plugins to produce a noticeably superior download.”
The Nagios Plugins project has received help from numerous community members who have made the feature enhancements and bug fixes possible for this release. Among the feature improvements and bug fixes include:
- Addional performance data
- Multiple output option enhancements
- Additional plugin arguments
- Fixes for security vulnerabilities
- Improved help output and clarity
“The project has seen a lot of work in the past few months,” said security lead Spenser Reinhardt. “Being proactive, instead of reactive, to security vulnerabilities enables us to provide a stable, secure project for our user base.”
The Nagios Plugins Development Team's plans for the project's future include providing plugins designed for distributed and large environments, additional hardware and network support, as well as maintaining and improving security. With the release of version 2.0, the Nagios Plugins project has gained greater project clarity and a roadmap for the future.
