Libman Education Announces New Online ICD-10-PCS Training Course

BEDFORD, Mass. - March 4, 2014 - PRLog -- To help medical coders prepare for ICD-10 at a more advanced level, Libman Education has released an online ICD-10-PCS training course covering the Medical and Surgical-related and Ancillary Sections of ICD-10-PCS.

The course, titled ICD-10-PCS: The Medical and Surgical-related and Ancillary Sections, is authored by nationally recognized ICD-10 expert Lynn Kuehn MS, RHIA, CCS-P, FAHIMA. It is the second of three courses in Libman Education’s ICD-10-PCS training series.

·        The first course, ICD-10-PCS, Part I: The Med/Surg Section, provides an introduction to the structure and design of the ICD-10-PCS system and the content of the coding guidelines.

·        The second course, ICD-10-PCS: The Medical and Surgical-related and Ancillary Sections, focuses on the “back of the book,” that is the medical and surgical-related and ancillary sections.

·        The third course, Advanced ICD-10-PCS Coding by Body System, provides coding instruction by body system.

As an online course, students can learn when it is convenient for them, working around their busy schedules.

ICD-10-PCS: The Medical and Surgical-related and Ancillary Sections shows students how to apply knowledge learned in the first course, including: definitions of root operations, index and table concepts, and selecting the correct characters based on the documentation. In addition, students are introduced to the remainder of the ICD-10-PCS system, and are taught to master new root operations, root procedures, and root types within the last 15 sections of PCS. The course consists of six lessons that concentrate on:

·        Obstetrics section

·        Placement, Administration, Measurement and Monitoring sections of ICD-10-PCS

·        Extracorporeal Assistance, Performance and Therapies sections

·        Osteopathic, Chiropractic and other Procedures sections

·        Imaging, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Oncology sections

·        Physical Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Audiology, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment sections of ICD-10-PCS

“The October 1, 2014 deadline is fast approaching,” said course author Lynn Kuehn. “Will medical coding departments be prepared? Much of this depends on their level of ICD-10-PCS proficiency. Our three-part series of ICD-10-PCS courses is designed to give students the knowledge and confidence needed to face the approaching ICD-10 transition head-on.”

The course is for inpatient coders who have either taken the first course in the series, ICD-10-PCS, Part I: The Med/Surg Section, or another introductory ICD-10-PCS course.

ICD-10-PCS: The Medical and Surgical-related and Ancillary Sections includes engaging illustrations and YouTube videos. To reinforce the material, the course includes Check Your Knowledge questions and an assessment for each lesson.

Those who take the course are eligible for six American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) CEUs.
