Columbus, OH
- The BDP is thrilled to announce the launch of a website to support MODULE (2013), an HIV prevention modern dance, choreographed by The BDP Founder and The Ohio State University dance faculty, Rodney A. Brown. Education Options in Dance Composition: The Brown Dance Project (The BDP) Translating the Pedagogy of Action (POA) Module on HIV Education to Dance is an online book project that details The BDP History and a choreography development process. Brown’s company lab has involved words and Dance Composition for entertainment, advocacy (HIV) among other considerations since 2006. Brown’s choreography, MODULE (2013), is a less than 30-minute dance translation of the oral HIV Prevention methodology, the Pedagogy of Action (POA) Module on HIV Education developed by Dr. Nesha Haniff (University of Michigan). Brown says, “the imperative of this translation research seeks to develop dance material such that a viewer can distinguish some functional differences between Red and White Blood Cells, dissimilarities of HIV and AIDS, understanding of Stigma, 4 fact-based ways HIV can be transmitted, ways to prevent HIV infection as well as experience the art form of dance differently.” Funded by the University of Michigan Center for World Performance Studies (CWPS), The BDP will conduct a new Translation residency with non-dance populations at the University of Michigan Department of Afroamerican and African Studies (DAAS) in May 2014.

The BDP also named Johnnie R. Kornegay, III as its Managing Director. Mr. Kornegay has worked closely with The BDP on many projects over several years, and brings with him a background in art, business, human resources, and graphic design. Mr. Kornegay is from Chester, PA, and has worked for such notable companies as Independence Blue Cross and Borders Books in a variety of roles. He will focus on the day to day business dealings of The BDP.
