World-Class Montecito Estate with Mountain and Ocean Views

Proudly offered by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties agent Tim Dahl, and Carol Dotson, for $16.98 million

March 3, 2014 - PRLog -- After strolling through the park-like grounds and relaxing on one of the home’s numerous ocean view terraces or balconies, it’s easy to see why this large Montecito estate won a Medal of Honor from the American Institute of Architects.  The spacious interior adds to the appeal of the residence, which offers five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and an attached guest suite.

Designed by Reginald Johnson* and completed in 1917, the home includes high ceilings, distinctive wood trim accents throughout, numerous fireplaces and hardwood floors.  Amy du Pont acquired the property in 1920 and spent 44 years developing the world-class botanical gardens.  Famous balladeer Burl Ives also spent many years enjoying the estate’s serene ambiance and the exceptional quality of life that is found in Montecito.

Everything that one would expect of a home of this caliber can be found indoors.  The living room is grand and inviting; the dining room features copper wainscoting and a hand painted mural. The drawing room has mahogany beam ceilings and inlaid hardwood floors.  The spacious updated kitchen is perfectly suited for any occasion, with its commercial-grade appliances and extensive counter space.

French doors in many of the rooms bring the sunshine inside and showcase the home’s idyllic location.  With a bent grass putting green, an 80’ lap pool and a gazebo-covered spa, the estate offers numerous opportunities to enjoy Montecito’s perfect climate. Adjacent to the formal rose garden and topiary is a three stall horse stable and riding rink, a detached four car garage, and a 2,200 square foot guest house that is currently being used as an entertainment pavilion. Additionally there is a separate gym/dance studio.

As it is surrounded by with majestic trees, entirely gated and private, the fact that this home is neighbored by high profile celebrities and business moguls might not be readily apparent. For more information, or to schedule a private tour, please contact Tim Dahl or Carol Dotson at 805-886-2211, or via email at Tim@TimDahl.com.

*Reginald Johnson was an MIT grad who also studied in Paris.  Some of his more well-known works include St. Paul’s Cathedral in Los Angeles, the Santa Barbara Biltmore Hotel, and the Flintridge Riding Club. Though he earned acclaim designing luxurious estates, in his later life the impact of the Great Depression led Johnson to focus more on smaller homes, eventually earning him an award from Herbert Hoover.
