By: James Allen's Girls' School The Community Music Centre@jags will be completed in 2017, by which point £17 million will have been raised. The CMC@jags will provide much needed musical resources for the area. There will be a 400 seat concert hall, a 100 seat recital hall, 26 practice rooms, 3 music technology rooms, a listening room, and music therapy room. The Centre will be home to community choirs, orchestras, & musical groups of all styles. It will provide the highest standards of accessibility so those of all physical & mental abilities can access the Centre. JAGS has an excellent national reputation, and a unique musical heritage thanks to its first Directors of Music, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. Now the music-makers are not only pupils from JAGS but from other schools; they are part of James Allen’s Saturday School for the Performing Arts, or one of their South London Youth Orchestras, or the James Allen Community Orchestra, or JAGS Choral Society. The talented and committed musicians of south-east London deserve high quality, purpose-built performance spaces. "Music is the greatest extra you can add to education" (Richard Stilgoe OBE, CMC Patron) End
