BalticServers Still Accepting Bitcoins, Customers Safe; Life After Mt.Gox

Feb. 27, 2014 - PRLog -- EUROPE --- Accepting Bitcoin can be risky, especially in the slim-profit-margin web hosting industry. Less than two months since accepting the online currency, Baltic Servers accrued -- and lost -- more than $10K (USD) due to the sudden closure of the Mt. Gox Bitcoin exchange.

But customers that paid in Bitcoin are safe.

“Baltic Servers takes full risk for accepting Bitcoins. So even though your Bitcoin payments never reached us, all client services will remain active. Even if the Bitcoins disappeared, your hosting will not.” said a company spokesperson.

Although not small change, the amount reflects less than 1% of total revenue.

“We can handle the loss. Baltic Servers believes in the future of Bitcoin and will continue to accept payments by Bitcoin.”

The alternative merchant gateway BitPay will now be used.

Mt. Gox, once the largest Bitcoin trader and merchant gateway for Bitcoin payments, shut down amid allegations of incompetence. The company collapsed after more than $300M in Bitcoins was stolen by hackers.
