NEW YORK - Feb. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- Yellow Peril Gallery is pleased to present "Cultural Hegemony" at SCOPE New York 2014, featuring artists whose body of work is rich in social context and investigates ideas of right and wrong, beautiful and ugly, just and unjust, and possible and impossible in a quietly confident manner.

“Engaging and successful works of art must advance a thought, provoke action and question the reality manufactured by the ruling elite who control every aspect of our contemporary culture,” notes Robert P. Stack, Curator, Yellow Peril Gallery.  “Whether this is done by occupying an empty space or activating an already busy one, the power is wielded by each artists’ vision and then yielded indirectly by the general public through smart colors, constructions and connections.”

Featured artists at “Cultural Hegemony” include: Kathryn Parker Almanas, Joan Backes, Naomi Campbell, Jamey Morrill, Paul Myoda, Rodrigo Nava, Hao Ni, Raquel Paiewonsky, Anne Morgan Spalter, Quintín Rivera Toro and Diego Rodriguez-Warner.

“Cardboard Trees” by Joan Backes, an installation of two trees made from cardboard boxes from every continent, was selected for SCOPE’s curated range of Featured Programming, which highlights the most innovating and challenging works on display, such as monumental sculpture, installation or interactive works.

SCOPE New York opens on Thursday, March 6, with its Platinum VIP Preview Gala and First View Benefit and Press, will open to the general public March 7 – 9, 2014.  Yellow Peril Gallery will host “Cultural Hegemony” in Booth L09.  This is the Providence-based contemporary art gallery’s second appearance as one of 15 galleries selected by a panel of independent curators to join SCOPE’s Breeder Program.  They made their debut in the international contemporary art fair at SCOPE Miami Beach 2013 during Art Basel Week.
