CHORLEY, U.K. - Feb. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- In 2014 Scotland welcomes the world to join in the exciting Year of Homecoming. In addition to the 40th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July and the 40th Ryder Cup at historic Gleneagles in September.

There's a year-long programme of activities celebrating the very best of Scotland’s unique nature and natural landscapes as well as showing off all that's great about Scotland; from mouth-watering food & drink, spectacular arts, to cultural and ancestral heritage to explore. These will also be a range of fantastic events including the John Muir Festival in April celebrating the exceptional Scot-born naturalist.

Tourism Minister, Fergus Ewing, believes the Homecoming events are a "huge opportunity", he added: "We have already seen Lonely Planet name Scotland as one of the three top countries in the world to visit in 2014. CNN recently listed Edinburgh as a top ten city to visit this winter”.

Even a concept as traditional as the Highland Games is getting in on the Homecoming 2014 act. The Cowal Gathering in Dunoon in August is the world’s largest Highland Games and this year it will be taking on a Homecoming hue.

With thousands of visitors expected to take part in the celebrations coach tour operator Alfa Travel has also increased its 2014 programme and packed it with an exciting array of holiday ideas at great value for money prices, starting from only £159 for a 5 day break and £219 for a 7 day break!

Each handpicked resort is perfectly situated in Scotland’s prime locations and takes in the varied landscape that Scotland is famous for.  Each tour offers a range of different experiences, whether you are looking for city break in Edinburgh or a seaside holiday at Dunoon, there will be something to suit you. The more adventurous can embark upon a journey deep into the Highlands at Braemar, set in the heart of the Cairngorms, or experience the magical Isle of Skye, once voted the fourth best island in the world by National Geographic magazine.
