Applauds New Mobile Tourism Information App
To Be Launched Next Year by Rand McNally

Delray Beach is Test Site for New App

(Delray Beach, FL – February 24, 2014)  Vacationers or business travelers heading to South Florida can soon find out all they need to know about what Delray Beach has to offer while they’re on the go, thanks to a new mobile app created by Rand McNally as part of its new Best Town Travels program.

The app, which can be downloaded for free, provides visitors and potential visitors from all over the country with easy access to everything from an overview of the area to listings of things to do, places to stay and restaurants to visit.

"If you’re on the road and on your way to Florida, you now can plan your whole visit to Delray Beach before you even get here,” says Stephanie Immelman, executive director of the Delray Beach Marketing Cooperative (DBMC), which worked with Rand McNally to help build the app. ”This is one more way we’re helping to lead people from all over the country to Delray Beach.

Set to officially launch next year, Rand McNally’s Best Town Travel Guide will include apps for selected cities from around the country. The cost for the program is expected to be $15,000 per city, however, there is no charge for Delray Beach because it was chosen by Rand McNally to be the test site.

"We're  honored that Rand McNally selected Delray Beach for the Beta test after interviewing several other cities,” Immelman said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our community.”

Rand  McNally representatives said a previous working relationship with the DBMC and a comprehensive visitor information website already in place, helped make Delray Beach an easy choice to be the first in the Best Towns Travels guide.

"Delray Beach was a previous proud winner of our annual Best of the Road program and provided us with valuable input and feedback while we were developing the concept and functionality of the app,” said Rebecca Oistad, vice president of Digital Strategy and Business Development for Rand McNally. “Delray Beach already had the website, content and team in place to work hand in hand with our group.”

With just a few taps on a smart phone or tablet, those interested in visiting Delray Beach can see photos of the area, learn about events taking place during the off-season and get listings of several attractions and hospitality-related businesses.

"This is an easy and efficient way to find the best places to stay and attractions to see while visiting in Delray Beach,” said Stephen Chrisanthus, associate director of the DBMC. “While Rand McNally initially limited how many listings it included on the app, we will be adding more in the coming months.”

Both  Immelman and Chrisanthus say the partnership on the development of the app has helped assure top quality and also helps further link Delray Beach to Rand McNally, the trusted name for road-trip information.

"We're tied to Rand McNally and to their national brand,” Immelman said. “Delray Beach is the app city that they’ll be showcasing across the country.”
