Feb. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- #RunChat, the popular weekly Twitter community chat about running, recently launched #RunSwap – an online classifieds page to sell, buy or trade running gear.

"During a #RunChat in summer 2013, someone suggested that we have a place for people to sell or trade gear they don’t use," said #RunChat co-founder David Hylton of Richmond, Va. "#RunSwap will be that place for runners to sell an old GPS watch they don’t use or get rid of a pair of shoes they didn’t quite like."

Items on #RunSwap will be tweeted by @run, a quickly growing Twitter account that #RunChat’s founders acquired in spring 2013.

Acquiring the @run account is just one of many of #RunChat’s recent successes. #RunChat’s main Twitter account – @therunchat – grew more than 200 percent in 2013 and now has nearly 20,000 followers.

While #RunChat is known for its hour-long Q&A format chat on Sunday evenings, the tag is used by about 700 runners daily asking personal questions, tweeting motivational quotes, linking to their blogs and having friendly running debates.

Also in 2013, #RunChat:

* Was used by more than 40,000 people with nearly a half million tweets.

* Averaged more than 5,800 contributors a month with a reach of 7.3 million people

* Saw about 450 during an average hour-long chat, with more than 3,800 tweets each week and an average reach of a half million people.

#RunChat includes weekly sponsorships for running companies with a social media campaign that includes giveaways. Many start-up companies saw increases of more than 50 percent in one-week #RunChat campaigns.

"#RunChat respects the running community and its passion," said #RunChat co-founder Scott Miles of Boston, Mass. "The community of runners is making a positive difference in the running world, and we can’t wait to continue this commitment in 2014."
