The difference between water-resistive barriers like housewrap and building paper and drainable housewrap is the additional gap created by spacers, which allows moisture to drain from wall adssemblies at a faster rate. In addition, the drainage channels form an unobstructed path behind cladding, avoiding the possibility of "ponding" along siding edges with traditional barriers.
