Mr2Media Licenses 4K Ultra HD Content Created with Ultra-compact Sony RX100 Camera

LOS ANGELES - Feb. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Mr2media announced today that it has licensed its 4K film short, “LA Nights,” to Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI) for use worldwide on the company’s Video Unlimited 4K download service through Sony’s 4K Ultra HD Media Player. The five minute time-lapse film focuses on iconic Los Angeles images such as Rodeo Drive, Sunset Blvd and the Santa Monica Pier in stunning 4K resolution. What makes the film unique is that the camera used was a point-and-shoot Sony Cyber-shot® RX100.

Beginning as an exploration of the 4K workflow process became a creative process for Mark Ringwald, owner of Mr2Media.  Previously with 3net, the 3D and 4K Discovery, Sony, IMAX joint venture, Ringwald had helped 3net establish a 4K post production workflow with Sony’s Post Media Center and DADC, gaining invaluable experience in how to best work with the huge file sizes needed for creating content for Ultra HD sets. At the same time he realized that the full resolution files from his personal camera were in fact much greater than 4K resolution. “The RX100 has a one-inch sensor and a Zeiss lens and individual files looked stunning on a 4K television,” said Ringwald, “so I thought what if you could capture an image sequence and the idea of creating a time-lapse was born.”  The film was edited using 16 bit, 4800x3200 pixel Tiff files rendered from the camera’s RAW images and mastered as a DPX sequence.

A 90 second version “LA Nights” appeared at CES in early January and the full version can now be viewed by consumers who own or purchase Sony’s 4K Ultra HD Media Player through the Video Unlimited 4K download service or as a demo at Sony Stores.
