All Are Welcome to Guest Night at First of Sussex Toastmasters
The Annex at the First Presbyterian Church in Sparta Township has been home to First of Sussex Toastmasters since August of last year and the club has welcomed many new members since. Established in 2007, First of Sussex Toastmasters is one of the best Toastmasters clubs in the area, helping community members develop more confidence as they hone their leadership and communication skills in a safe atmosphere filled with warmth and fun. As a result, members come all the way from Port Jervis & Warwick, NY, Vernon & Hopatcong, NJ, and Pike County Pennsylvania on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month so they can continue to become excellent communicators and leaders in their own right.
Recent guests to the club, father and daughter Tom & Candace Christopher, were pleasantly surprised at their experience during their first visit, and eagerly signed on the dotted line at the next meeting. When asked what she enjoyed about the first meeting and why she joined the club, Candace said, “I enjoyed my first meeting because of the openness and kindness in the community. First of Sussex Toastmasters offers a safe place to express yourself and they are very accepting of people who are there for the first time. What made me come back for the next meeting was the desire to be part of a program idgew that made me feel like I was part of something and to take the opportunity to better myself. And what better people to do that with?”
As it turns out, it looks like Candace is going places. At her very first meeting, she won the ribbon for Best Table Topics speaker. Table Topics are a portion of each meeting where volunteers must deliver a 1-2 minute speech off the top of their head in a thoughtful and concise manner, in response to an impromptu question from the Table Topics Master. Candace volunteered to tell the club why a string of red beads were hypothetically the reason why the universe was created. Her response was that they are the color of love and they are all connected, just like us. Well done Candace!
Be sure to join First of Sussex Toastmasters on February 25th at 7 pm at The First Presbyterian Church Annex, behind The Flower Box, 32 Main Street in Sparta Township. You’ll be welcomed by the club members, experience a Toastmasters meeting and enjoy refreshments available especially for this meeting to welcome newcomers and veteran members alike. Try to arrive early for a good seat!
