MULTIPLE EVENTS ANNOUNCED IN SUPPORT OF COLORADO FILM INCENTIVES

The Colorado Film and Video Association (CFVA) today announced active participation and support of Cinema Day coming on February 26th with a full line-up of activities to support the passage and continued growth of Colorado Film incentives.   The CFVA in association with

•    CINEMA, a statewide advocacy group promoting Colorado’s media industry and

•    Colorado Office of Film, Television & Media

are utilizing Cinema Day to raise awareness of the economic benefits the industry brings to the citizens of Colorado and to also recognize the catalyst film incentives have had in bringing new business and film production into the state.

It has been less than two years since the state legislature passed film incentives to grow the industry, and now, Colorado offers a competitive film incentive program by providing a 20% film tax credit.  Since the passing of Colorado House Bill 1286, (the new 20% incentive law) on July 1, 2012 – the Colorado Office of Film, Television & Media was the catalyst in stimulating over $35 million in production creating almost 800 jobs in the state.  Colorado's incentive program now enjoys a return on investment of $9 for every $1 it allocates to the rebate program and production has skyrocketed across all genres from commercials to local feature films to Hollywood blockbusters.

"The last 2 years have showcased an exciting expansion of opportunities for Colorado's creative community, particularly in the realm of film, television and video game production,”  said Melissa Kuipers, policy advisor, Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, Schrek, “through the incredibly effective outreach of the industry, in particular the CFVA, we have been able to showcase the creative talent Colorado has to offer in a way that shows elected officials just how critical the creative industries are for our state and its annual tax revenue collection.”

On Cinema Day, the Colorado Film and Video Association will be present at all events and celebrating the successes that have been achieved in the industry over the last two years.   “We have over 400 members whose livelihood depends on the film industy,” said Leslie Allen, CFVA Board Chair, “we have seen great momentum in the industry and continue to support the legislative process at all levels to see it prosper in the future."

The following schedule of events will take place in support of Cinema Day.

February 26th:
CFVA (Hollywood) Comes to the State Capital
West Foyer of the Capital
11:00am – 2:00pm

A film crew of Colorado professionals will shoot state legislators and their staff on a green screen in classic Hollywood moments.  Wardrobe and makeup will all be utilized in capturing famous scenes on film.   The scenes will then be edited and shown at a legislative event that evening at the Cinema Day reception at the Clear the Air Foundation offices that evening.  Legislators will get a copy of their scene and “behind the scenes” filming of the production crew will also be part of the program.   Student filmmakers from the Denver Film Society will also be part of process.  The shoot will engage legislators in a very personal way with the industry to demonstrate the process of film professionals at work, and have some fun at the same time.

February 26th:Cinema Days After Hours Reception

Colorado Automobile Dealers Association
290 East Speer Blvd.
5:00pm – 7:00pm

Members of the Colorado Legislature, the Colorado Office of Film Television and Media, Colorado Film & Video Association members, and Colorado’s media industry and supporters will gather to celebrate an amazing year of media production in Colorado.  The event will showcase the successes of Colorado’s media production incentives with hosted refreshments at the event.   The completed film shot that day in the capital will be shown to attendees, potentially to hilarious effect.
