New Laser Hair Removal Technology Makes Total Body Hair Removal Possible in Just 30 Minutes
Toronto cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Stephen Mulholland, was recently featured on Canadian Breakfast Television and Global National News discussing the latest advances in high speed, permanent total body laser hair removal.
“Recent advances in high speed, effective, almost painless diode 810 nm laser hair removal devices, like the Cynosure Vectus, the Lumenis LightSheer Duet and the InMode DioLaze, means we physicians can treat very large zones, like a man’s back or chest, a women’s legs or arms in a matter of minutes.”, explains Dr. Mulholland. These high speed, large spot size devices can treat very large areas of unwanted hair quickly, allowing women to treat several hair zones in one quick session, treating legs, arms, bikini lines and armpits sequentially in less than 30 minutes. A series of 3-4 treatments with the high speed diodes, followed by 2-3 treatments with smaller spot sized 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm NdYAG lasers for the few remaining resistant hairs, means that in 5-6 sessions, each session taking less than 30 minutes, a patients can be free of shaving, waxing, plucking or electrolysis for the rest of their life”, comments Dr. Mulholland.
The high speed diodes are very fast and each have a unique method of reducing pain, making the treatment of very large zones, such as chest, back and legs quite comfortable. The high speed of these lasers means that the prices for treating these large zones has gradually dropped and become affordable for everyone. A series of 5 treatments for removing unwanted hair on the whole body can cost under $1,000 at some reputable centers.
Laser hair removal is now a billion dollar business and the speed and efficacy of these large in–office lasers have patients clamoring for treatments and has the makers of razors on the run. “There will always be a role for shaving or waxing, but increasingly, if a women or a man wants to quickly and affordably treat their unwanted body and facial hair with a laser, they can treat their WHOLE body at once, safely and effectively”
The slower, but very effective, 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm NdYAG lasers are then used towards the very end of sessions to kill the few remaining hair follicles that are resistant to the high speed diodes, leading to a very high percentage of permanent reduction. Most patients with light or brown skin and dark hair can achieve 85% or greater permanent hair removal using this strategy of high speed diodes, multiple sessions and then multiple wavelengths.
