MIAMI - Feb. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- The Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board recently elected Stephen Hunter Johnson as Chair.  Johnson is a Partner at Miami-based law firm Lydecker Diaz, a full-service commercial law firm.  The Board also recently elected Gerri Lazarre to vice chair; Edgar Wright to secretary; Ronald Mumford as parliamentarian and Tracey Bowen-Bell as treasurer.

“Supporting the needs of Miami-Dade County’s Black World Community has always been a part of my life and career.  Continuing the great work carried on by my predecessor and immediate past chair, Priscilla Dames-Blake, is an honor.” said Mr. Johnson.

Johnson’s litigation experience encompasses a range of complex business and business tort matters, as well as intellectual property litigation. Before joining Lydecker Diaz, Johnson began his career as an associate in the Miami office of a business litigation boutique headquartered in New York, where he represented banking and corporate interests in multiple international business and commercial disputes.  Johnson received his Bachelors in Science from Coppin State University and his Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.

The Black Affairs Advisory Board (BAAB) was established in 1994 to act as an advocacy mechanism for the socio-economic, political and educational needs of Miami-Dade County’s Black World Community.  The board makes recommendations to the Miami-Dade Board of Commissioners as it relates to understanding and resolving those issues impacting its constituents as well as making policy recommendations.  The BAAB’s current focus is on the establishment and implementation of the Miami-Dade County Coordinated Response Team (MDC-CRT) which consists of a network or agencies, private, public and faith-based entities that provide a range of legal, medical, mental health and other support services to Miami-Dade County citizens.

The BAAB’s membership is comprised of civic-minded individuals who are appointed by the Miami-Dade Board of Commissioners.  Members serve in an advisory, non-compensatory basis and reflect the diversity represented among Miami’s Black World Community.

The BAAB meets monthly on the first Wednesday of each month and meetings are open to the general public.  For further information on the Black Affairs Advisory Board and its programs, visit the website at www.miamidade.gov/baab.
