Frozen Pipes and Cold Rooms? Get an Infrared Scan

Thermal Scanning helps locate the source for frozen pipes and cold rooms

SOMERSET, N.J. - Feb. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Now that January 2014 (coldest in 100 years) is over.  Homeowners are probably relieved temperatures have risen and they do not have to worry about freezing/frozen pipes and/or cold rooms.  Now comes sticker shock, The High Utility Bills.

Many homeowners found themselves asking how can a fully insulated home with double pane windows and tightly sealed doors have frozen pipes-especially when those pipes are located in the middle of the heated space?

Beach Infrared was contracted, throughout the month of January 2014, to perform infrared scans to determine the reason for frozen pipes and cold rooms.  The scans showed interior walls and ceilings were just as cold or colder then outside walls.  Surprisingly, most of the cold rooms and frozen piping was in newly constructed homes (homes built within the past five years).

The number one cause for these issues was air leakage into interior wall and ceiling cavities.  Some of the sources for air leakage and comfort problems are at the ceilings and concealed framing details, insulation missing around exterior wall outlets and switches, unsealed openings at the top of walls (where it terminates in the attic), pull downstairs and recessed lighting.

If you have or are experiencing any of the issues mentioned above contact Beach Infrared for a complete infrared scan of the interior of your home.
