Feb. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Legendary basketball great and Hall of Famer Nevil Shed of the prominent 1966 Texas Western Minors, the subject of Disney’s hit film “Glory Road,” retired his jersey on January 25th, 2014 during half time at the UTEP game against UTSA, after being celebrated for his exemplary achievements in basketball history.  The Texas Minors, who are newly named UTEP, are well known for being the first team in NCAA history to start an all African-American line-up in a championship game. The team would go on to win the 1966 NCAA Men’s Division National Championship. After this incredible feat, Shed was drafted by the Boston Celtics before incurring a career ending injury and going on to spend the rest of his professional career imparting unparalleled wisdom and support to young players the world round as a coach and mentor. Currently, Shed is the General Manager and Assistant Coach of the American Basketball Association’s Texas Fuel. Under his directive, The Fuel are now 7 and 1, and ranked #14 on the ABA National Power Ranking Scale, and #1 in the Texas League.

Shed brings with him to the Texas Fuel, basketball stand out Marcus Edward Hill, whom he coached last year when he was with the American Basketball League’s Lonestar Law. Hill, who is the team captain and starting point guard for The Fuel, just made history himself during their December 14th game when he set a team record with 17 assists.  For Shed, a man who has made history being a skillful and fearless player, is definitely imparting his sizable basketball acumen in outstanding players like Hill, as he readies this court general and the rest of the Texas Fuel for ABA domination.

Please join the Texas Fuel at 7:30pm on Monday February 10, 2014 at Durbon Athletic Center (2737 Bobcat Lane) in San Antonio as they battle it out against the international team the Japan Shizuoka Gymrats for a charity basketball game in their 5th Annual Global Game.
