Arizona's Catholic Schools Salute H&R Block

H&R Block saluted for Arizona Catholic schools partnership, tax credit scholarships to assist low-income students

PHOENIX - Feb. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- H&R Block was recognized for a second straight year for its partnership with Catholic Education Arizona to encourage taxpayer participation in the Private Education Tax Credit in order to generate scholarships students from low-income families.  The salute was given at a National Catholic Schools Week rally at the Capitol last week in front of 1,000 students from dozens of Catholic schools across the State of Arizona as well as bishops, legislators and 150 donors and supporters of the tax credit program.

“We could not be more excited to partner with a great company like H&R Block,” said Paul S. Mulligan, President and CEO of Catholic Education Arizona.  “H&R Block is the recognized industry leader in tax preparation and is universally respected for its tax expertise, so to have their tax professionals help us increase student-access to high performing Catholic schools through tax-credit-funded scholarships is a tremendous service to our community.”

Individual taxpayers may effectively “redirect” their 2013 tax liability to education by making a tax credit contribution to Catholic Education Arizona by April 15, 2014.  Contributions of up to $1,031 per taxpayer ($2,062 for married filers) can be taken as a dollar-for-dollar credit against what the taxpayer would otherwise pay the state. Contributors also receive a 2014 federal tax deduction for their charitable gift, providing an even greater tax benefit.  The tax credit contributions are used to fund scholarship awards for students from qualified low-income families.

In addition to robust character formation, Catholic schools graduate ninety-nine percent of students, and ninety-seven percent go on to post-secondary education through what is commonly called the “Catholic school advantage.”
