Local Golf Tournament to Raise Money for Community Development

Bethel's Place Empowerment Center launches 1st Annual Community Development Golf Classic to provide social services for the under-served in southwest Houston and surrounding communities

HOUSTON - Feb. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Bethel's Place Empowerment Center (BPEC) officials hope to score a hole in one with the launch of their 1st Annual Community Development Golf Classic.

The golf tournament kicks off at 8:15 a.m. on March 3, 2014, with registration and an opening reception at 6:30 a.m., at the Quail Valley Golf Club, 2880 La Quinta Drive, Missouri City, Texas 77459.

The tournament aims to raise funds for community development initiatives in southwest Houston for food, clothing, shelter and educational/career enhancement services for the underserved.

The event will include a shotgun start, a Hole-In-One Million Dollar Shot, clinic and training courses, an awards banquet/luncheon and a scholarship awards presentation.

Former University of Houston Phi Slama Jama player, Larry Micheaux, and Missouri City resident, Marylene Evans, CEO of T and M Healthcare, are co-chairs for the event.

Micheaux calls the tournament "a great opportunity to connect with and empower the community."

"I hope we have an outstanding turnout and that it helps meet the needs of Bethel's Place in empowering the community with food, clothing, housing and other needs," said Micheaux.

Evans, a resident of Fort Bend County who grew up in a family of 12, says she can relate to the needs in the community, and calls the tournament "a great endeavor."

"I know how important the services Bethel's Place provides are for people who have real needs in the community and I am grateful to be a part of the event," says Evans.

The entry fee is $100 per golfer which covers a continental breakfast, snacks, banquet luncheon, greens fee, golf cart, driving range, tournament gift bag, refreshments during and after play and door prizes.

Some of the tournament's current sponsors include Niagra Bottling Company, LLC, Houston Restaurant Association, Fluor Daniel, T&M Healthcare, Inc. and Belhaven University.
